Overview

The Mucorales Molecular Detection Kit is a PCR-based molecular assay designed to detect Mucorales, the order of fungi responsible for mucormycosis (sometimes referred to in lay terms as black fungus). By targeting Mucorales nucleic acid in clinical specimens, the kit gives laboratories a molecular line of evidence to support the investigation of these aggressive, fast-progressing pathogens.

Invasive mucormycosis is an angioinvasive infection that can progress rapidly, particularly in immunocompromised patients and those with poorly controlled diabetes, where timely clinical intervention is important. Conventional approaches such as microscopy and culture can be slow or have limited sensitivity, so a molecular method can be a useful addition to the diagnostic pathway when used alongside them.
