Celiac Disease: A global challenge

Celiac disease is a chronic digestive and immune
disorder, found in genetically predisposed individuals, triggered by gluten ingestion, affecting the small intestine with a global prevalence of 1 in 1001. The diagnosis is often challenging due to a wide range of overlapping symptoms.

Current diagnostic tests include antibodies against tTG, DGP, as well as Total IgA and sometimes EMA (IFA). IgA is the isotope of choice, however, IgG is requested knowing the prevalence of Total IgA deficiency.

AiPlex CD microarray contains key markers recommended by clinical guidelines American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) and the European Society for the Study of Coeliac Disease (ESsCD).

Following guidelines (ESsCD), especially for pediatric population anti-tTG IgA results may help determine the need for an invasive procedure (no-biopsy diagnosis) based on the provided ULN (upper limit of normal). In case of IgA deficiency, testing for IgG autoantibodies are recommended.
